Fluids Research Group

Fluids Research Group at UC Merced

The fluids group meets weekly to share and discuss current fluids research in the Applied Mathematics Unit here at UC Merced. We use mathematical and numerical analysis, modeling, and computational simulation (and, coming soon: experiments!) to explore a variety of different problems related to fluid dynamics. These include, but are not limited to, fluid-structure interactions, multiphase and low-Reynolds number flows, and porous media problems. We consider applications ranging from geophysics (sedimentation, stratified fluids, erosion) to biofluids (dynamics of marine organisms, blood clot formation under flow, ciliary beating) to fundamental physics (drop-wave interactions).

Our group is led by Professors Francois Blanchette, Shilpa Khatri, Kevin Mitchell, Dustin Kleckner, Bin Liu, and consists of graduate students, postdocs and faculty in the Applied Mathematics and Physics Graduate programs. Our work is supported, in part, by grants from the National Science Foundation.
