Parker Fromm

Bio:
Parker has been consistently one of the top students in all her classes in the Applied Mathematics major program. She is inquisitive, hard-working, and a source of support and leadership for her classmates. In addition, Parker has been serving as a Learning Assistant (LA) in calculus courses since the beginning of the LA program. More impressively, her academic successes have been achieved while playing on UC Merced's Women's Basketball team. Parker’s academic accomplishments have been recognized by a Frances M. Benton Scholarship, a Scholarship-Giving Tuesdays B, Dean’s Honors List, and Chancellor’s Honors List. In addition, as a Women’s Basketball team member, Parker participated at the Cal Pac Conference Champions and volunteered in the community at events such as the Alzheimer walk and trash pick-up. Parker stands out as an exceptionally engaged, hardworking, and intelligent student. She is focused, dedicated and always prepared to ask questions. Her curiosity and drive are contagious. She is active in class and helps her peers selflessly. To quote a couple of her instructors: • One cannot ask for a better student in their class. • Her efforts place her solidly in the top percent of undergraduates in science and engineering tracks with regard to quantitative ability. Parker was a member of the founding cohort of the Learning Assistant program and has continued her participation ever since. Students find her particularly helpful and able to explain concepts clearly. She provides effective guidance without making students feel nervous or embarrassed for asking. She is proactive in opening discussions with students who may be struggling to get traction on a new problem or approach. The Applied Math is proud to have Parker as one of our graduates and has no doubt that she will distinguish herself in the next pursuit.
