  • May I take Math 11 to replace a not passing grade in Math 21, or take Math 12 to replace Math 22?

In Fall Semester 2010, students eligible for the Math 11 and 12 series based on their major are given a one-time opportunity to replace a not passing grade in Math 21 with Math 11 and a not passing grade in Math 22 with Math 12. Students will need an advisor override to enroll in Math 11 if Math 21 was unsuccessfully completed prior to Fall 2010. This exception is only granted for Fall Semester 2010, the first semester Math 11 and Math 12 are offered. Beginning Spring Semester 2011, students will only be able to replace Math 21 with Math 21 and Math 22 with Math 22.

  • If I took Math 21 or 22 prior to Fall Semester 2010 and did not pass can I repeat Math 21 or 22 even if my major only requires two semesters of Calculus?

Yes, but remember Math 21 and 22 are also changing and there will be additional material covered that was not covered when you first took Math 21 or 22.

  • Can I switch from Math 11 to Math 22?

Yes, but you will need to either a) take a competency exam in Math 21 or b) choose to enroll in Math 21 so you meet the course requisite (advisor over-ride needed to enroll). Remember, students who choose to enroll in Math 22 after completing Math 12 will lose the grade points and units for Math 12. This may impact financial aid and/or degree progress so you are strongly encouraged to speak to an advisor regarding this choice.
