Bio: 
Professor Roummel Marcia received his Ph.D. from UC San Diego under the supervision of Professor Philip Gill. Prior to joining UC Merced, he was a postdoctoral researcher in computational biochemistry at the San Diego Supercomputer Center and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a research scientist in electrical engineering at Duke University. His research focuses on optimization and its applications in data science, including image processing and computational biology. His research has been funded by DARPA, ARPA-E, and NSF. He is currently the graduate chair of the Applied Math Graduate Program.
