Scientific Computing and Data Science Seminar

September 8, 2022 - 3:00pm

Speaker: John Butcher (University of Auckland, New Zealand)

Title: B-series and Applications

Abstract: In the analysis of the numerical accuracy of many established numerical methods, B-series play a central role. These objects are described in terms of rooted trees and can be thought of as an algebraic representation of the computational processes to which they correspond. The applications are to the numerical order of Runge-Kutta methods and so-called General Linear Methods, which are multivalue generailzations of classical one-step methods.
