Introduction
The UC Merced - Benedict College Internship Program in Machine Learning and Modeling in Biology aims to provide an enriching research experience for Benedict College undergraduate students at UC Merced in Summer 2022. The program consists of 10 weeks in which the students will live on UC Merced's campus, attend professional development workshops via UC Merced's Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center (UROC), and use their mathematical and machine learning techniques to tackle real-world problems in biology. Interns will work alongside UC Merced faculty and graduae students. At the end of the program, students will present their research at the annual UROC Summer Research Symposium.

May 30-August 6, 2022.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled at Benedict College this semester (Fall 2021).
- Applicants must be in good standing with at least a 3.0 GPA
- Applicants must have taken Differential Equations I (Math 237) or equivalent by the start of the REU.
- Applicants must be willing to enroll in a specific Benedict College course in Spring 2022.
- Graduating seniors are eligible to apply. However, to get the most out of the program, which will continue through the 2022 Academic Year, our target participant will still be enrolled at Benedict College in the Fall 2022 semester.
Stipend
Students will receive a stipend for $5,000 for the 10 week program. Room and board will be provided. Students will be housed in double occupancy in a dorm on UC Merced's campus and a meal plan will be provided. Travel to and from Merced will be covered
